The French Perspective Exhibition at Agora Gallery Welcomes Artist David Garcia de las Bayonas

In my art, I use materials such as concrete, asphalt, aluminum, drippings, bolts, trellis welded wire as well as chrome paint that offer a good refraction of light.

NEW YORK, NY, June 09, 2009 /Art and Artists PR News/ -- Agora Gallery is pleased to present The French Perspective, an exhilarating survey of contemporary art from France. There is a remarkable variety of styles represented in this exhibition, truly profound works that delve into humanity's deepest creative roots. Some of these talented artists are tremendous painters and sculptors while others explore experimental techniques and new media. Art lovers will undoubtedly be enamored by this selection of works from our neighbors across the Atlantic.

The work of David Garcia de las Bayonas traverses the fine line between painting and sculpture. His mix of materials aluminium, asphalt, concrete and paint to name a few give his work a strong urban feel, and could easily result in very heavy pieces. In fact, Bayonas' canvases possess a surprising lightness and subtle depth. From his dark backgrounds, elements float and shimmer with the light. The compositions are abstract and rely on simple geometric shapes for the main composition. These shapes act as a counterpoint to the detail of the work fast streaks of paint bisect the canvas, fluid writing appears on surfaces and tar drips down in multi-hued sheets. Bayonas favors materials traditionally used in construction as these lend strength to his compositions and ground them in the real world. He is able to transcend brutal materials and produce empathetic, enigmatic works. David Garcia de las Bayonas lives and works near his birthplace, Nimes, in Southern France.
