Gail A. Deterra, Former Lt. Col. in the U.S. Army, Builds Second Career Creating Greeting Cards
PALM HARBOR, FL, July 23, 2009 /Art and Artists PR News/ -- Gail A. Deterra, Owner of Nature's Greetings, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of visual arts.
After concluding 27 years of service to the U.S. Army, Ms. Deterra decided that she wanted to start a business that allowed her to pursue her lifelong love of photography and birding. She thus established Nature's Greetings, a photography shop specializing in note and holiday cards. As owner and artist, she takes photographs of birds, and creates artistic renderings of these photographs in oil and watercolor. She attributes the success that she has found in her second career to her creativity and artistic ability.
During her time in military service, from which she retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, Ms. Deterra flew helicopters for 11 years and served in medical operations, including attaining a position under the Army's Surgeon General. She worked as a defense contractor involved in sending medical teams to South and Central America and in emergency management as a consultant. She was also part of the staff that set up one of the Army's largest medical commands, in St. Petersburg, FL, and considers this to have been the highlight of her career.
Ms. Deterra received her Master's Degree in Homeland Security in 2006 from American Military University. She is a member of the Clearwater Audubon Society and Audubon of Florida, and gives generously to the American Cancer Society. She aspires to sell her cards through her own online store.
