Gwen Cates Joins the Ranks of Leading Professionals
Gwen Cates celebrates over 30 years as a painter
SANTA YNEZ CA, July 29, 2009 /Art and Artists PR News/ -- Gwen Cates, artist and owner of Calavira Studio, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in the arts.
Gwen Cates, a painterly realist colorist, does plein air oil paintings on California Central Coast ranches and vineyards. She has also completed a series of Santa Cruz Island paintings and is working on a series of paintings of Hollister Ranch in Goleto. In Calavira Studio, a large airy barn in the Santa Ynez Valley, Cates also paints abstract and figurative work. Easels and display panels with finished paintings and works in progress are on view.
Gwen has had solo exhibits at Edith Grove Gallery in London followed by one person shows at Alex Gallery in the Du Pont Circle area of Washington D.C. as well as numerous exhibits in Virginia and California galleries. Cates is currently July featured artist in the AGSYV Guild Room at Gallery Los Olivos.
Windrows and Vineyards won a top award at the Faulker Gallery in Santa Barbara in 2007. Colorscapes, a solo exhibit of landscapes, was shown at the Elverhoj Museum in 2006.
Gwen studied Fine Art at Virginia Commonwealth University and later at Hollins University where she received a BA with honors.
Gwen's current goal is to continue painting in pristine areas and to exhibit in a major gallery in Los Angeles during the next year.
