The Center for Hearing and Speech Announces El Paso Corporation and Quantum Energy Partners as the Houston Via Colori 2009 Presenting Sponsors
As the presenting sponsors of Via Colori 2009, El Paso Corporation and Quantum Energy Partners help The Center for Hearing and Speech (CHS) reach more children with hearing impairments.
HOUSTON, TX, August 22, 2009 /Art and Artists PR News/ -- As the presenting sponsors of Via Colori 2009, El Paso Corporation and Quantum Energy Partners help The Center for Hearing and Speech (CHS) reach more children with hearing impairments. Via Colori is a free, annual street painting festival in downtown Houston, which runs 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, November 21 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, November 22.
During Via Colori, thousands of visitors gather to watch as 200 artists line the streets of Bagby and Allen Parkway to transform squares of asphalt into pastel scenes of majestic animals, stunning landscapes and many other images. Via Colori also features live music and food. For a small contribution, children become artists in Via Bambini.
"In addition to raising awareness of the great work done in our community by The Center for Hearing and Speech, the festival has become an important event in Houston's vibrant art scene," President of El Paso Exploration & Production Company Brent Smolik said. "Our employees, their families and the entire community benefit from the festival and from the work of The Center for Hearing and Speech."
"Quantum Energy Partners is proud to be a part of a community event that does so much to support this worthy organization," S. Wil Vanloh, Jr., president and CEO of Quantum Energy Partners, said.
The inspiration for Via Colori stems from the 16th Century Renaissance, when disabled veterans would paint the courtyards of Italian cathedrals. Today, the festival makes art more accessible to the community while benefiting an organization that helps thousands of children each year.
CHS Executive Director Renee Davis said, "Via Colori is a major fundraising event for The Center for Hearing and Speech. Ninety percent of those we serve receive some form of financial aid. We are extremely appreciative of our presenting sponsors, as well as the many other major and square sponsors."
A United Way of Greater Houston agency, CHS has served as the only local, full-service resource that teaches children with hearing impairments to listen and speak without the use of sign language for more than 60 years. With the aid of highly trained staff and advanced technology, CHS provides education, audiology and speech pathology services to children with mild to profound hearing loss.
