The Studio's Resident Mastery Show: A Tradition of Fine Furniture
Resident Mastery Program Graduate, Zach Malcolm, will be showing his signature pieces at Portland, Oregon's Albina Community Bank in the Pearl District during the month of September.
PORTLAND, OR, August 21, 2009 /Art and Artists PR News/ -- Zach Malcolm, recent graduate of the Northwest Woodworking Studio's Resident Mastery Program, exhibits his signature pieces after nine months of intensive study. Albina Community Bank hosts this year's show, with an opening reception on First Thursday, September 3, 2009 from 5 to 8 p.m. The show runs through September 28.
This year's graduate hearkens from Woodhull, Illinois. Zach says of his experience here, "It has been a lasting one, hopefully like the furniture I build." The goal of the program is to "teach people how to design and build furniture of the highest quality", according to Gary Rogowski, "using their hands, eyes and hearts, building functional and beautiful objects to last for generations."
Applicants from around the country are carefully selected each year in June to participate in the Resident Mastery Program. Led by acclaimed woodworker, author and contributing editor for Fine Woodworking Magazine, Gary Rogowski, students learn furniture making techniques and design skills while each develops a signature style. The application deadline is June 1 each year for the program, which starts in the Fall.
