Canadian Artist Dominique Payette's Paintings are highly nuanced textured surfaces in Beyond Borders at Agora Gallery

Painting entered my life all of a sudden. I met Seymour Segal, who changed my life and gave me a new purpose, allowing me to discover a new side of myself. I offer workshops to adults and children to allow them to share my joy and experiences.

NEW YORK, NY, October 07, 2009 /Art and Artists PR News/ -- Chelsea's Agora Gallery announced they will host an exhibition of fine art from Canada that is scheduled to run from October 2, 2009 through October 23, 2009.

There is an accomplished air of maturity to the paintings of Dominique Payette. The viewer is presented with highly nuanced textured surfaces that bear witness to sweeping brushstrokes, scratches and stipplings. Payette employs an almost monochromatic palette, allowing small windows and glimpses of earthy reds and ochre to glimmer through her complex compositions in blacks, greys and whites. Payette's lines form shimmering constructions of geometric shapes, remaining ambiguous in their abstraction so as to place the viewer in a state of curiosity—are these windows and walls, do they relate to a landscape or are they a visual guide to the inside of Payette's mind? Densely structured, the paintings project a feeling of solidity and balance. Emotionally the muted palette with its flashes of color would seem to denote sobriety and sorrow. However, the paintings are not the wildly emotive canvases of Abstract Expressionism but exquisitely controlled and explorative works of understated beauty.

Dominique Payette was born in Montreal and has been painting since 2002. She has exhibited widely.

Beyond Borders is an exhibition of innovative and stunning Canadian Art. Works span the range of artistic expression, each artist imparting with their unique style a little piece of the Canadian spirit. Playful, humorous, saturated with color, and presented in unique fashion, this is an exhibition to delight the senses.
