How to purchase your very own DNA Portrait:
The process begins with a visit to the Yonder Biology website 'www.yonderbiology.com' to choose the color design and size of the DNA portrait. After checkout Yonder Biology mails a DNA collection kit that consists essentially of a sterile cotton swab and a self addressed stamped envelope. The swab is gently rubbed on the inside of your cheek and returned in the provided envelope.
The DNA from the swab is then isolated (purified) using standard molecular biology techniques. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and Gel Electrophoresis are then employed to image the DNA profile on a gel matrix. A photograph is taken using a custom-made gel imaging system that includes a high-powered digital camera. The digital images are transferred to a computer where the final touches (color, photo overlay) are completed.
