Jane Stuart Vander Poel Honored for Professional Longevity in the Arts
Jane Stuart Vander Poel was appointed to create sculptures depicting the Mystery of Faith
WASHINGTON, DC, February 2, 2010 /Art and Artists PR News/ -- Jane Stuart Vander Poel has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in artistry and authorship.
Jane Stuart Vander Poel is an artist with 41 years of professional experience specializing in sculpture, calligraphy, graphic arts, watercolor painting and line drawing. In 1999, she was commissioned by Celistino Noussan, a representative for the Catholic Church in the Valle D'Aosta in Italy, to create a series of 10 sculptures in 5' x 3' blocks of slate. The sculptures depict the Mystery of Faith: The Annunciation, The Visitation, The Birth of Jesus, The Presentation of Jesus at the Temple, Jesus in the Temple, The Resurrection of Jesus, The Ascension of Jesus, The Descent of the Holy Spirit, The Assumption of Mary to Heaven, and The Glory of Mary in Heaven. These pieces are now positioned on a walkway leading up to the Madonna on Mount Zerbion in Valle D'Aosta, Italy. Upon completion of the church commission in 2000, Ms. Vander Poel wrote "I Misteri del Rosario," a book depicting the votive walk and the creation of the 10 slate sculptures.
Among her other noteworthy creations, Ms. Vander Poel's artistic works include three bronze entrance gates at The St. Georges School in Newport, Rhode Island, as well as a life-size bronze figure, "The Skater," completed in 2001 for the school's Winter Sports Complex.
In 2004, she wrote the preface and edited "Where do the Souls of Roses Go?," a collection of poems and reminiscences of her aunt, Florence Marlatt.
While working as a calligrapher and graphic artist in Manhattan from 1980 to 1982, Ms. Vander Poel painted a series of 15-foot murals depicting Russian fairy tales on the walls of Restaurant Ruslan, located on the Upper East Side.
From 1976 to 1980, Ms. Vander Poel worked as an account executive and public relations representative for Gus Ober and Associates in New York City and from 1968 to 1970, she created and designed for her own greeting card company, The Register Mark, Ltd.
From 1966 to 1968 she worked as an editorial assistant in the fashion department of Town & Country Magazine.
From 1966 to 1968, Ms. Vander Poel was an art and art history teacher at Elizabeth Morrow School in Englewood, New Jersey and from 1964 to 1966 she taught art at The Potomac School in McLean, Virginia.
Ms. Vander Poel graduated from The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, New York and from The Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, Italy.
