Geraldine Benfante is a renowned watercolorist and mixed media artist
EAST ELMHURST, NY, March 11, 2010 /Art and Artists PR News/ --Geraldine Benfante, Art Teacher and Freelance Artist, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of art instruction.
Geraldine Benfante's expertise lies in teaching drawing and watercolor painting, and creating miniature houses and mixed media art. A retired registered nurse, she now offers courses on drawing and watercolors for teenagers through the East Elmhurst Library and community. Characterized by a strict attention to detail, her work is currently on display at the Town Hall and at The Art Institutes' web gallery. Ms. Benfante is also known as a miniaturist, and recently completed a miniature house that took several years. The subject of several one-woman shows and the recipient of a number of art awards, she attributes her success to her educational background and determination in the face of obstacles.
Prior to devoting her energies to art, Ms. Benfante worked as an administrative supervisor of nurses. She received her master of professional studies in Gerontological administration from The New School, a bachelor of arts in community health and psychology from CUNY Queens College and an associate in applied science (Registered Nurse) from Manhattan Community College. She sits on the board of the Jackson Heights Art Club and is a member of the Salmagundi Club. Honors of which she is a recipient include a second place finish at a competition organized by The Art Institute, a Best in Show Award, several awards for watercolor painting from the Jackson Heights Art Club, and certificates of merit from art instruction schools.
When she is not teaching classes, Ms. Benfante does gardening work for the library and around the neighborhood. She serves as the vice president of the Friends of the East Elmhurst Library. She supports Disabled Veterans of America, the ASPCA and North Shore Animal League America. Looking to the future, she intends to further her career as a professional artist.
