Robert Mitchell Recognized for Professional Efforts in Fine Art Restoration and Conservation
Robert Mitchell is an authority on fine art conservation, having restored over 60,000 oil paintings
SURREY, UK, March 10, 2010 /Art and Artists PR News/ -- Robert Mitchell, Oil Painting Conservationist and Founder of Robert Mitchell Oil Painting Conservation, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in fine art restoration and conservation.
Demonstrating nearly 40 years of industry savvy, Robert Mitchell established his conservation studio in 1971 in an effort to address the restoration needs of large and small oil paintings of all ages. To date, Mr. Mitchell has conserved an excess of 60,000 oil paintings - experience that has made him an internationally-recognized authority on fine art conservation. A family-run operation, the conservancy is supported by the assistance of Mr. Mitchell's wife, Vicki, who serves as a studio assistant and his son, Darrell, who, after operating his own conservation and restoration firm in Australia for 10 years, has become an experienced partner in the firm.
Mr. Mitchell utilizes his expertise in art conservation to address damage caused by water, vandalism, fire, damp storage, heat and aging. Very specific and specialized techniques are used to authenticate paintings as well as to estimate age and origin. Cleaning, cutting and color matching plans are customized for each piece in order to restore a work to its original brilliance. In addition to his efforts in conservancy, Mr. Mitchell also offers fine art framing and gilding for dealers and private collectors.
In 2005, Mr. Mitchell and his son founded Mitchell Studio Gallery, which showcases restored pieces and presents exhibitions. Such artists as Sir Claude Francis Berry, Roy Barley, Denby Sweeting and Darrell Mitchell have been profiled at Mitchell Studio Gallery. The studio boasts over 400 paintings in stock and welcomes inquiries by private collectors.
A self-taught master, Mr. Mitchell has researched and developed a number of innovative conservation techniques. He built his own Vacuum Conservation Hot Tables during the late '60s and implemented the use of low pressure low temperature bonding as opposed to the standard hot iron glue and bees wax techniques. He also developed global warming friendly conservation supports, eight of which he currently utilizes at his conservation studio.
Mr. Mitchell is an FA Coach and is professionally affiliated with the Guild of Master Craftsmen and the Association of Art and Antiques Dealers. For additional information about Robert Mitchell Oil Painting Conservation, please visit http://www.oilpaintingconservation.co.uk.
