Dr. MaryAnn Janosik Honored by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Higher Education

Dr. MaryAnn Janosik, dean at St. Catherine's University, published an extensive volume on American rock music

SAINT PAUL, MN, September 24, 2010 /Art and Artists PR News/ -- Dr. MaryAnn Janosik, Dean of the School of Professional Studies & Graduate College at St. Catherine University, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in higher education.

With three decades of experience in academia, MaryAnn Janosik is a respected authority on curriculum development and instruction, contemporary American culture, and popular music. She was appointed Dean of St. Catherine University's School of Professional Studies & Graduate College last May. In this capacity, she is in charge of staffing, faculty development, and all issues related to curricular and academic programs. Dr. Janosik brings to her position a proven track record in sundry aspects of education, including community outreach and fundraising, learning assessment, diversity competency, distance education, first-year retention programs, budget development, strategic planning, and institutional accreditation. Prior to coming to St. Catherine's, she sharpened these skills as Provost, Vice President of Academic Affairs and Professor of History at Saint Joseph College of Indiana, as Dean of the Campus at Ohio University Lancaster, as Dean of Social Sciences and Business at Oakton Community College, and as a Professor at Lake Erie College.

Deeply immersed in the field of research, Dr. Janosik is a published author recognized for her contribution to the study of contemporary American culture. In 2006, Greenwood Press published her volume, "The Video Generation: Rock Music in America - 1981-1990," as part of a six-volume series on the history of rock music. She also presented her current research on women, Catholicism and rock 'n' roll at Oxford University's prestigious Round Table on Women in 2008, as well as enjoyed a spell as director of education for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum from 2000 to 2001. Dr. Janosik considers the publication of her volume to be the highlight of her career to date, and attributes her success to the guidance that she received from her father, who told her that, if she found work she loved, she would never have to work a day in her life. To that end, Dr. Janosik is proudest of two awards that she received that are related to teaching and research: The Roger and Anne Clapp Award for "Excellence in Teaching" (1995), and first place from the National Catholic Association for her article "Madonnas in Our Midst: Representations of Women Religious in Hollywood Film" (1998).

Dr. Janosik earned her Ph.D. in history from Case Western Reserve University, her master of arts in history from Cleveland State University, and her bachelor of arts, with high honors, from Oberlin College. She currently sits on the executive board of the Midwest Popular Culture Association, and has served on the editorial board of Popular Music & Society. Additional affiliations include the American Historical Association, the American Association of University Women, and the College of Independent Colleges. Dr. Janosik aspires to increase her historical research activities and publish another book within the next five years.
