Abstract Artist Amy Cannady Opens Chicago's Fall Art Season at Gallery KH

Cannady's new exhibition "Poetry in Paint" opens Friday, September 9 at Gallery KH in Chicago

CHICAGO, IL, September 02, 2011 /Art and Artists PR News/ -- Amy Cannady: Poetry in Paint
Opening cocktail reception: Friday, September 9, 2011 5-8PM

Gallery KH is pleased to present Poetry in Paint a new collection of mixed media paintings by the artist Amy Cannady. Poetry in Paint opens September 9, 2011 through November 8, 2011. An opening night cocktail reception with the artist is scheduled for Friday, September 9, 5-8PM. All gallery events are free and open to the public.

"We are thrilled to open the Chicago Fall art season with Amy Cannady's Poetry in Paint exhibition. This new series of paintings invite the viewer to look further and deeper until one recognizes the significance of each painting's title. She has developed a style that is as timeless as it is contemporary. The show promises to be a bright spot in our Fall schedule," states Shannon K. Rather, Assistant Director of Gallery KH.

Amy Cannady has been deeply influenced by nature and relationships, as evidenced in her abstract painting. Hailing from Indiana and most recently Dallas, her paintings reflect a journey both spiritually and physically. Within Cannady's artwork, tensions and serenities coexist, inviting the viewer to consider life's mysteries and ambiguities. Through a reduction and layering process she allows line and form to emerge, disappearing again into obscurity. Cannady invites the viewer to ponder that something has happened, is happening, or is about to happen.

Cannady's most noted artistic influences, Joan Mitchell, Philip Guston, Cy Twombly, and David Smith, all place strong emphasis on the use of line. The writings of Jean-Paul Sartre, C.S. Lewis, Soren Kierkegaard, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and Thomas Merton inform her work philosophically and theologically, each attending to the inward/outward spiritual journey.

"I honor a thought by making a mark on the canvas. I do not have to know why that mark must be made. This process has been defined by art critics as a kind of 'Glossolalia,' a language of its own," states the artist.
