Vicki Fisk Named a Music Industry Professional of the Year by Cambridge Who's Who

Despite losing her home in Hurricane Katrina, soprano Vicki Fisk continues her professional career.

WESTWOOD, NJ, July 1, 2011 /Art and Artists PR News/ -- Vicki Fisk, Freelance Soprano Soloist, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership, and excellence in music.

The critics have praised the singing of soprano, Vicki Fisk. "A true coloratura, with great warmth, grace and style" - "bright and supple sound" - "gave new depth and insight to the phrase bel canto" - "beautiful music intelligently performed" - "possessed of an evenly place voice with an extremely secure upper register, (recalling memories of both Judith Raskin and Judith Blegan)" "roundness of tone combined with firmly based authenticity" - "pinpoint clarity and agility" - "the final high D brought visible expressions of awe and delight from the crowd."

Vicki Fisk is a freelance soprano soloist headquartered in the New York Metropolitan area. Originally from New Orleans, she made her New York debut at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center, with the American Symphony Orchestra as soloist in Orff's Carmina Burana. She made her Carnegie Hall debut with the Manhattan Philharmonic as soloist in the Mozart Coronation Mass, the Vivaldi Gloria, and Beethoven's Choral Fantasy. She has performed as soloist with numerous orchestral and chamber music ensembles, and choral and oratorio societies, such as the New Orleans Symphony, the Louisiana Philharmonic, the Shreveport Symphony, the Delaware Symphony, the Budapest Concert Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of the Palisades, the Bach Festival Orchestra, the Fort Lauderdale Chamber Orchestra, the New Jersey Chamber Music Society, the Pro Arte Chorale, the New Jersey Oratorio Society, and Philomusica.

Ms. Fisk is also a much sought after recitalist with a large repertoire ranging from classic operatic arias and Mozart concert arias to the art songs of Italian, German, French, and British composers, and a wealth of contemporary popular songs. She studied at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria where she met the distinguished baritone and teacher, Gerard Souzay. As his protege, she was personally invited by the artist to showcase her talent at his Metropolitan Museum of Art Master Class in New York City. Collegiately, she has sung concerts and master classes for Tulane, UNO, WWNO FM, LSU, and Kansas State.

Ms. Fisk holds a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from the College of Music, Loyola University in New Orleans where she studied with Charles Paddock for many years. She did additional vocal studies with Virginia MacWatters at Indiana University in Bloomington and master classes with Franco Corelli. A semi-finalist at the Pavarotti Philadelphia Opera International Competition, she was also a District Winner and Second Regional Runner up in the Metropolitan Opera Auditions and a New Jersey State and Liberty District Winner of the National Federation of Music Clubs vocal competition. She was one of the eleven winners of the San Diego Artist Center Awards in a competition judged by Tito Capobianco and Luciano Pavarotti.

Still officially a New Orleans resident, Ms. Fisk lost her home to Hurricane Katrina. She hopes to reconnect with individuals from her hometown who may not know her new location. She is familiar to New Orleans residents as a frequent soloist with the New Orleans/Louisiana Philharmonic in the Messiah, Carmina Burana, and the Sea Symphony. She was personally selected by Philippe Entremont as soloist for his penultimate appearance with the New Orleans Symphony, in the world premiere of a contemporary work by composer and violin virtuoso Rene Starr.

Ms. Fisk is also known for poise and beauty which led to her becoming Miss New Orleans and a runner up to Miss Louisiana in the Miss America Competition. She has also honed her acting skills and tested her artistic flexibility in various musical comedy, theatre, commercial, and film productions. She also has adjudicated numerous vocal competitions and performed as a voice-over artist for television and radio.

Ms. Fisk can be heard on the CD "The Way of Love" singing the duets of Mendelssohn, Brahms, and Dvorák with mezzo, Beth Staples and Israeli pianist, Gershon Silbert. She is also featured on "A New York Christmas" singing with New York Radio City Hall organists, David Messineo and Bob Maidoff, on the Brooklyn Paramount Theater Wurlitzer Pipe Organ. Her solo CD, "Celestial Sounds of Christmas" features familiar holiday songs with flute and piano accompaniment. She is currently recording another CD of Christmas favorites and another of sacred songs as a member of the vocal duo DolciCanti.
