Caroline A. Doucette Recognized for Excellence in Fine Art
International watercolorist Caroline Doucette was featured in "Splash 5: The Glory of Color"
RUGBY, ND, August 5, 2011 /Art and Artists PR News/ -- Caroline A. Doucette, International Watercolorist, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of fine art.
International watercolorist Caroline A. Doucette recalls being taught perspective drawing by her mother at the early age of four and learning the fundamentals of composition from her father, who worked with the photography department in the U.S. Air Force. Raised in a family of artists, Ms. Doucette was a skilled painter by the time she was a teen. She began painting full time in 1989 with the encouragement of her husband, who suggested she try watercolors. Twenty-two years later, she is a celebrated watercolorist specializing in florals and flags. Her initial attraction to flowers was that they enabled her to utilize a bright and vivid color palette, which translated perfectly on hot press paper. Says Ms. Doucette on her website, "The more I painted flowers and gardened, the more I viewed myself and flowers as survivors, with a quiet strength that is bold and has beauty despite any flaws. In the flower is the continuous circle of life with the dreams of tomorrow."
Ms. Doucette paints flags to celebrate her patriotism. Just as her family was involved in art, so were they involved in the service. Her grandfather served in the Army during WW1, her mother served in the Army during the Korean War, at the same time her father was in the Air Force, and her four brothers served in the Army, the Air Force, the Navy and the Marines. "[Flags] are a part of my family heritage," says Caroline, who served in the Army during Vietnam.
Ms. Doucette's work was featured in the summer 1996 and spring 2000 editions of "Watercolor" magazine. One of her most celebrated paintings, "To Life," was published in "Splash 5: The Glory of Color." In addition, her paintings appear in a number of permanent collections, including the Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Mass., and the Taube Museum of Art in Minot, N.D. Out of the four awards that Caroline received in the 2011 Pekin Days Art Show's Watercolor Division, one was a first place award and another was a second place award. In 2009, she also received first place recognition at the Show and in 2002, she received an honorable mention. In 2004, she was presented with a bronze medal at the Eleventh Annual National Watermedia Juried Exhibition, and in 1999, she received the TFMorgan Purchase Prize at the Nashua Mall Art Show. Ms. Doucette has also held a number of solo exhibits at museums, galleries, professional offices and events.
Ms. Doucette completed coursework at River College and studied under the likes of Elise Kohl and Kay Kandra. She is a signature member of the New England Watercolor Society and the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society. She is also affiliated with the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, North Dakota Art Gallery Association, Northwest Art Center, Minot Art Association and Cider Painters of America.
